Many students ask if they should continue taking lessons during the summer. Baseball and soccer are key summer interests and many students will spend weekends away at nearby cottages. Still, however, my answer is an emphatic yes. Of course lessons should continue. Learning and the combined experiences of the regular private lessons, practices and occasional performance represent a cumulative process whereby skills developed in doing so are together maturing. Indeed in young students those processes are often just coming together to make the whole experience a positive success. Why then would we ever consider suspending or terminating these gains I can't imagine.
At CIM our focus is and will remain on real ability to understand, exercise and express music skills with confidence. This is made possible by the commitment of both instructor and parents. Consistency is very important to continuity and success. Children and adults profit greatly from the regular lesson and playing opportunity. Frustration and failure can result from lack of consistency. Instead of slipping into the common thought that summer would be a nice time for a "breather" see it rather as an opportunity to continue the forward progress made during the regular school year. Help us to keep the ball rolling as always we will do our best to help inspire progress throughout this educational endeavour.
