Jeff Cappelli

Jeff CappelliJeffrey Cappelli is the founder of the Cappelli Institute of Music.  Jeff was born and raised in River Forest, IL. He attended Oak Park River Forest High School. There he was a repeat winner of the Concerto Competition, and the recipient of the Frederick Chopin Outstanding Musician award. During that time he was a repeat winner of the Society of American Musicians, Illinois State Music Teachers Association, Geneva competitions, and a winner in the Steinway Piano competition. Jeff also received a scholarship toward college from the MacDowell Artist Society of Oak Park.

Jeffrey was a student of his parents Dr. Amo and Nancy Cappelli of River Forest, Mr. Alex Joseffer of Chicago and Dr. Donald Isaac of Northwestern University.

Jeffrey Attended Indiana University where he received Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance. There he studied with Dr. Karen Shaw and Michel Bloch. Jeffrey served as Associate Instructor of Piano at both I.U. and IUPUI campus’s during his graduate studies.
Jeffrey studied Piano Technology as a student at Indiana University. Instructor Douglas Strong and others provided years of classroom and practical personal instruction by allowing full access to the IU piano repair shop, concert stages and practice rooms for extensive on site experience.

Following the college experience, Jeffrey worked privately as a piano instructor and piano technician before founding the Cappelli Institute of Music and his piano restoration workshop which is now fully developed as Chicago Piano Service, Inc.


Locally, Jeffrey has performed as soloist with the Oak Park and River Forest Symphony, in solo recitals in the Chicago Metropolitan area and for several benefit concerts sponsored by the Cappelli Institute. Philanthropic concerts developed by Jeff include those for Northwestern University’s Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Center, The Ronald McDonald House near Loyola University Medical Center, Misericordia and St.Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis.  Most recently Jeffrey performed at the Nineteenth Century Club and participated in the Oak Park "Steinway Crawl" which involved presentations at Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple and The Nineteenth Century Club where the three Steinway pianos from those two locations had been previously restored by Jeffrey and his restoration shop staff.

As owner of Chicago Piano Service, Jeffrey supervises the experienced staff of piano technicians,  instructs new and apprentice technicians, oversees and manages the piano rebuilding operations and enjoys customer service.

Jeffrey has been an adjunct faculty member at the Chicago School for Piano Technology , a premier school for training of piano technicians and has served as President, Vice President,  Program Chairman and an Educator for the Chicago Chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild.

Jeffrey also owns and operates Chicago Piano Service Inc.  a Chicago area piano service company which provides tuning, service and repair for pianos of private individuals, institutions and musical venues.
