Study Viola at the Cappelli Institute of Music:

The Cappelli Institute of Music offers viola lessons for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Levels.  Learn to enjoy the rich and unique sound of the viola.  We feel strongly that you should consult with your instructor or other professional before investing in an instrument, even for beginner level.  We can provide information about instrument rentals. 

Beginner Viola Lessons:

Being comfortable with your instrument:  Posture; Learn how to properly hold the viola and grip the bow, care for the instrument, adjust the tightness of the bow and rosin the bow hair.  C G D & A strings.  An introduction to and blending of  Suzuki and Traditional methods.  Intro to alto clef and 1st position.  Introductory note reading and identification and time and note values are explained and demonstrated.  Introduction to daily practice and sound quality.   

Intermediate Viola Lessons:

Build on existing skills, continuation of 1st position, shifting and working in 3rd Position.  Expanding the quality of sound and tone and seeking a personal tone color with your instrument.  Intro to the treble clef and blending of the alto and treble clefs.  Beginning etudes, scales and a continuation of solo repertoire.  

Advanced Viola Lessons:

2nd, 4th and 5th Positions.  Continuation of technical and scale studies including Wohlfahrt, Kreutzer and Flesch.  Orchestral and solo repertoire.  Students and their teacher will prepare for orchestral auditions, competitions, and solo engagements.  Advanced technical skills are carefully taught and demonstrated by the Instructor.

Correct Posture, intonation, bowing techniques, tone color and quality of sound are stressed at every level.
